Pelletizer die plates

Pelletizer die plates are Umas Technology’s key products, a mix of engineering, technology and quality which are delivered all over the world. Our company has been producing these machine sets for petrochemical and chemical plants for the extrusions of LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP and compound materials for over 30 years. During these years Umas Technology has become synonym of high quality, reliability and duration for the most important manufacturers of polymers.

All Umas Technology’s die plates are original and some processes are protected by patents; in particular, we use three kinds of technologies for the production of draw-plates according to the different anti-wear coating process:

  • WC cylinders anti-wear layer;

  • TiC plates anti-wear layer;

  • WC sprayed anti-wear layer;


Following the main characteristics of our pelletizer plates:

  • Structure (base body)

It is made of a single block forged with martensitic stainless steel, resistant to corrosion, deformation and thermal shocks and subject to strict non-destructive testing so as to guarantee the quality and reliability of the machine;


  • Heating system

It’s used for mechanical manufacturing processes on the base body; Umas Technology is able to provide heating systems such as the heat channel one by one, which provides uniform heating without any preferential flow, which helps the polymer extrusion process, avoiding freezing phenomena and requiring less thrust at the beginning of the cycle which consequently saves a lot of energy, or also systems with  core jackets or jacket pipes. Furthermore, we carry out thermo-graphical tests in order to check the heat distribution within the cycle;


  • Anti-wear layer

As outlined above, Umas Technology manages three technologies which we briefly illustrate:

  1. WC Cylinders: it is the most consolidated and reliable engineering solution in which the WC cylinders – whose matrix was developed after many years of experimentation which brought to the optimal mixture of the different kinds of sintering powder– are fixed on the base body through a patented mechanical system, and completed with a brazing process which also has the function of absorbing the stress to which the cycle is subject; the final result is an extremely compact layer, which is very resistant both to the wear and the extrusion force and can be further adjusted in order to restore the roundness of the holes and to extend lifetime of the whole cycle; lastly, this kind of technology doubtless has the best quality/price ratio;

  2. Tic Plates: this is certainly the most advanced technology and it’s in some cases preferable to the previous one; in fact using TiC plates it is possible to have of a greater number of extrusion holes per surface unit, which, a part from providing a potential increase in the extrusion capabilities of the line, requires a lower extrusion thrust with consistent energy savings; moreover, TIC has a much higher thermal conductivity than WC and this permits an optimal extrusion process and an easy setup with a consequent reduction of out-of-specifications pellets;

  3. Spray WC: it is the simplest and most economical technology which however isn’t used very much in petrochemical plants because WC cylinders are preferred; it is however usable for small die plates for the extrusion of compound materials, if they are not continuous and it is not necessary to use heating systems.


Umas Technology’s pelletizer plates are subject to severe testing to check geometrical features, resistance under pressure and metallurgy of the components. Moreover, Umas Technology provides after sales services and a workshop dedicated to the refurbishment and upgrading of its machines in order to guarantee reliability, efficiency and efficacy for the whole lifetime of its products.


  • Knives

Natural consequence of the leadership in the production of pelletizer plates, Umas Technology also produces knives following original projects or according to the geometries of the most important OEMs; a great experience, fine materials engineering and a deep knowledge of thermal treatments and extrusion processes are synthesized in Umas Technology’s knives: made with solid bars or with inserts of TIC cutters, with variable or fixed geometry profiles optimized for a quick evacuation of the polymer; any single knife is subject to severe metallurgic and dimensional testing procedures so as to guarantee absolute cutting uniformity and long-lasting efficiency. Great reliability, quality and cheapness characterize our knives, which are destined to leading petrochemical industries and most of the times used within our die plates.
